Dr. Rupinder Singh Sodhi is a veteran of India’s dairy industry and the former Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the organisation behind the Amul brand. He served as President of the Indian Dairy Association (IDA) from 2022 to 2025.
Sodhi joined GCMMF in 1982 and spent more than four decades in the cooperative dairy sector, including nearly three decades working under the mentorship of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the architect of India’s White Revolution. He served as Managing Director of GCMMF from 2010 to 2023, playing a key role in strengthening Amul’s cooperative model, farmer network, procurement systems and national growth.
An agricultural engineer and first-batch alumnus of the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), Sodhi has been a strong advocate of farmer-centric cooperative models and inclusive growth. His philosophy centres on creating value for both milk producers and consumers, while strengthening rural livelihoods and the broader dairy ecosystem.
Beyond the IDA, Sodhi serves as Chairperson of NIFTEM and has held independent directorships and advisory roles across the food and agricultural sectors. He has also served on the Board of the International Dairy Federation. His contributions to Indian dairying have been recognised through honours including honorary doctorates and his election as a Fellow of the National Academy of Dairy Science.
