Rahul Nayak is the Chief Operating Officer of SPAR India (Max Hypermarket India Pvt. Ltd.), bringing more than two decades of experience across retail, supply chain, merchandising and business operations. He has held senior leadership positions with leading retail organisations including Spencer’s Retail, Trent Hypermarket (Star Bazaar), Tesco Sourcing and Trent Ltd.
Before joining SPAR India in 2024, Nayak served as Executive Director and Board Member at Spencer’s Retail, following his tenure as Director of Operations at Trent Hypermarket, where he was associated with the Star Bazaar business. Earlier, he held leadership responsibilities across supply chain, distribution, sourcing and non-food merchandising at Tesco and Trent.
At SPAR India, Nayak is responsible for driving operational performance and supporting the retailer’s growth in India’s competitive hypermarket sector. His experience spans retail operations, commercial strategy, supply chain, merchandising and business transformation, giving him a broad perspective on the evolving needs of modern Indian consumers.
Nayak has also been vocal about the changing role of hypermarkets, highlighting the need for retailers to move beyond legacy approaches and respond faster to changing consumer behaviour. He has emphasised that relevance, rather than simply location, is becoming increasingly important as consumers shop across multiple channels.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Nayak is recognised as a seasoned retail business leader with extensive commercial and operational expertise.
